A little less than 2 months ago, I lay sick with allergies in bed watching Dr. Oz. It was then I realized my body has changed and all the things I’ve been experiencing the past few years, were just because I was getting older and everyone else feels like this at some time or another. Well, no – not true! Of the 7 or 8 symptoms of a gluten free allergy, I had almost all of them. A girl similar in age described exactly how I feel and when she also elaborated on how she went gluten free, her body felt better…I knew I had to do something about ME, too!
With that said, I haven’t made the time yet to sit down, research and start the transition slowly. With the start of our diet a few months ago, I had started moving us to less processed, more natural, raw foods. But we still have a lot of ways to go and I’ve decided I’ll start working on the change after the holidays. So when I was recently given the opportunity to try Udi’s newest product, Classic French & Seeded Whole Grain Dinner Rolls and French baguettes, I was thrilled.
That’s the one thing about going Gluten Free that scares me. I LOVE bread and carbs of all kind, especially freshly baked crusty bread and dipped with olive oil and coarse ground salt & pepper…Mmm, Mmm! While I wasn’t able to find the new products locally, I hope to gather up the courage to recommend that my local grocers carry them. I simply can not wait to try them, as I could eat all the bread I want
Since I wasn’t able to find the new breads & rolls, I did find a favorite of ours…cookies. A few months ago, when I was introduced to Udi’s Gluten Free products, they sent us a wonderful care package and included was some Snickerdoodle cookies. And boy were they tasty. They are different from your average cookie, but they taste great and are much healthier for you. This time we tried the Chocolate Chip and they were just as delicious as the Snickerdoodle’s we had before. Now I’m on the look out for the Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and the Brownie Bites.
Another of Udi’s Gluten Free delights I had never tried before, the Cinnamon Raisin bread. I honestly didn’t have any high expectations on the flavor and texture of the bread, only because I wasn’t too thrilled about the hamburger & hot dog buns I once reviewed. It was mind blowing how similar it tasted to our “normal” Cinnamon Raisin Bread. I couldn’t tell the difference, it was so good. Now that the green light is good to go on the bread, I can make a baby step towards the muffins and try those next.
PURCHASE: Online at Udi’s or at your local grocery store (Whole Foods, Kroger, Safeway & Publix).
