JumpStarts Madagascar My ABCs

The kids really enjoy having special time with the iPad and usually fight over it. Since the iPad is 98% theirs, we try to seek out Apps that are educational and fun at the same time. That way we don’t have to hover them to ensure they are using something appropriate and they can experience & figure it out on their own. They are very quick to learn new Apps and are pro’s at using the iPad.

The kids were recently given the opportunity to try a new App to us, Madagascar: My ABCs from JumpStart. The age range is for 4 and up, but I felt this was a bit too easy for both my 4 1/2 & 6 yo. With that said, I’m still glad we have it on the iPad for the kids. It’s always great to have a refresher to keep up their knowledge on ABCs. My 6 1/2 yo has had some regression lately and has had to enter a special reading class to get her back up to par with the rest of her First Grade class. And with My ABCs being a fun & educational App, they won’t know they are learning.

JumpStarts Madagascar My ABCs main menu

This is the main menu for the App. From here the kids choose which activities they’d like to play/learn. The first 3 are “games” and the last one is the library for where they keep their snapshots.

JumpStarts Madagascar My ABCs trace

This is where there are dots or objects to take your finger & properly trace the letter. If you miss an object in line, it has you do it again, until the letter looks like the above. Once you’ve successfully completed it, it announces what starts with, in this instance, the letter “G”…grass, games, guitar & gloves. This one is my 4 1/2 years old favorite part of the App, even though he is great at writing letters on paper, he still likes to practice.

JumpStarts Madagascar My ABCs stickers

The stickers area. This is my 6 1/2 years old favorite part of the app. She likes to choose a letter and then decorate the page with virtual stickers. Then, get this…she takes a “picture” (snapshot) of what she decorated and it goes to a folder or library where she can see it later. I was over the moon to see she figured out the snapshot piece, I don’t think I would have ever noticed that or known it was there. I love when little minds explore!

JumpStarts Madagascar My ABCs find letters

Both my kids like the letter search activity…and so do I. When I was a kid, I loved hidden searches similar to this. My son, went above and beyond when I was watching him on this. He said the letter when he found it. I didn’t notice that the App did it for him, that’s something I would have liked to have seen, especially if he was younger and didn’t know the letters.

The kids really enjoy playing & learning with this App and this Mama is very happy to have it available to them, to sharpen their skills.
